Today I was not in class because I had a game. Here is tonights homework:
Define:
Republic- a political unit that is not ruled by a monarch and in which citizens with the right to vote choose there leaders.
Gravitas: weightiness or seriousness
Toga: type of clothing the Romans would wear.
Patrician: special privileged families
Plebeian: common farmers, artisans and merchants.
Pater Familias: "the father of the family"
Legion: massive military unit.
Identify:
Rome: located in Italy on a peninsula surrounded by water, which made it easy to travel and trading.
Rome: in the Alps and on Italy's southern tip. Rome occupies an ideal position from which to send out ships and armies in all directions. Romulus was part of an ancient Roman myth. He was the one who stated Rome after he struck his brother and killed him
Palatine Hill: the hill that Romulus picked for a new city. After he killed his brother, Palatine Hill became Athens.
Alps: located on the Eastern side of Rome.
Tiber River: a river that the Romulus and his brother Remus in when they were just babies.
Questions:
- Italy is right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, so it was a place for trade.
- Latins, Greeks, and Etruscans: they all were around Rome and were civilized, which help them all come together.
- Roman's were strongly influenced by a group of values called "the ways of the father".
- There was no democracy and the people did not have the choice to pick their king. There was no voting.
- The fathers ran the household while the mother would clean and cook. They houses were respected and taken care of.
- All men in Rome had to join the military.
